Medical Center of McKinney's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Delivers Extraordinary Care

The birth of a child is one of life's most celebrated events. When this highly-anticipated day finally arrives for you and your family, Medical Center of McKinney's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is ready to provide the skilled expertise you deserve.

When armed with proper prenatal care and the high quality care of an obstetrician, most "precious bundles" enter this world without complications. Yet, according to the March of Dimes, approximately 10 to 15% of all newborn babies require a higher level of care.

The specialized care required for unforeseen complications is best provided in an environment designed to foster growth in newborns with developmental issues. Medical Center of McKinney's NICU delivers this essential care to your newborn.  Our state-of-the-art Level III NICU is available to provide care for the smallest and sickest of infants, as well as for full-term babies in need of a little extra "TLC" before going home.

The highly-skilled neonatologists and nursing staff at MCM's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are fully committed to providing the highest quality and most comprehensive medical care to premature and sick infants.

Specialized features of MCM's Level III NICU include:

  • Staffing by neonatologists (physicians who care for premature babies or sick infants); neonatal nurse practitioners; specially trained nurses and respiratory professionals who provide 24-hour in-hospital coverage for infants and families requiring advanced care.
  • Immediate access to pediatric subspecialties including cardiology, ear, nose and throat, pulmonology, infectious disease, urology and hematology.
  • A seven-bed Level III NICU and seven-bed “Step Down” nursery to which babies are transferred before going home.
  • Special Giraffe beds, which are designed to reduce stress on the baby and eliminate the need to move the infant from bed to bed as they grow and develop.
  • A wide range of sophisticated breathing and ventilation treatments for premature babies, including ventilators, continuous positive airway pressure machines, high flow nasal cannulas, and surfactant therapy.

At MCM's NICU, we celebrate the birth of each and every child.  We believe the environment of our facility is a direct reflection of our philosophy of family-centered and developmentally supportive care.  While caring for infants is critically important to us, helping the whole family understand and be involved in their baby's care is equally essential.
